One Page Essay Topic: Master Harold

In the play, Sam and Hally recall a time when they flew a kite together. How could that story be symbolic of their relationship and the relationship between blacks and whites in South Africa during the 1950's?

Keep in mind, this story was discussed twice during the play, and with two very different tones and outcomes. You may want to consider that, and compare and contrast the two instances as you talk about the symbolic meaning of the story.
